I never thought I would like Adele’s album, after all, I was quite skeptical about critics’ reviews and covers of her songs (or rather, song – “Rolling in the deep”) by so many artistes, including John Legend, Linkin Park, etc. I did not want to buy an album for just one or 2 nice songs, if you know what I mean. However, I decided to get it anyway.
Anyway, I was blown away already on the first listen! It has been a very long time since I liked an album from top to bottom on the first listen, and I am not talking about an album that is full of catchy brainless tunes. ’21′ is quite a mature effort, considering Adele is only 21! According to her, this album is actually inspired by her relationship. By now, we should all be very familiar with her 2 singles, “Rolling in the Deep”, as well as “Someone Like You”.
Other than these two hits, my favourites would also include “Don’t You Remember” (my absolute favourite), “One and Only”, and “Set Fire to the Rain”. The album in general is rather cohesive and flows very well. Also, Adele’s an amazing storyteller, to be able to emote and bring out the meaning of the songs. They are afterall, inspired by her relationships.
This is definitely pop music at its very best!
