“The Answer is …” Stefanie Sun World Tour 2009 in Singapore
One word, “WOW”. I think it really sums up Yanzi’s concert, held last night at the Singapore Indoor Stadium. The venue was packed and it seems everyone was awaiting this “comeback” performance from the Singaporean pop princess. It was on home ground as well! There were no pitching problems and her voice was in top form!
The concert kicked off at about 8.45pm with “梦游”, a number from her 逆光 album. I think she was a “robot” or some person from the future who is searching for answers and stuff like that. Following that came all her hits, and there were some interesting song choices, in the sense that they haven’t been really performed frequently. These included “作戰” (from her LEAVE album), “懶得去管” (from the Moment album), “累贅” (from My Desired Happiness album), “Stefanie” (from her Stefanie album), and also some Chinese oldie which i don’t know the title. On top of that, she sang an English number, “So It Goes”, (I think it’s a Billy Joel song) a really heartfelt perfomance which was my favourite song for the evening.
Other musically interesting songs include “神奇” where she tweaked the rhythm a bit, and also “超快感”, in which they added a rock edge, and speed up the chorus a bit. However, “Green Light” was the most interesting song for the night. It was her first encore song, it sounded a bit weird in the beginning, since it became sort of “minor-ish”. But WOW! It had a different feel to it, and I wished she had done different arrangements for more songs! Once again, she ended the concert with “天黑黑”, which I feel is ever so appropriate even though this time it’s not on the encore list. The song, although simple, has so much meaning, and it was the song that launched her career.
What I love about the concert, other than the amazing Stefanie, was the stage! The stage was really unique and I think definitely one of the more exciting stages we have seen from Asian artistes thus far. The stage seemed to have a life of its own, but only complaint is that it was a bit under-used in the second half of her concert. Also, there was a storyline to the whole concert, and the recurring theme was about searching for answers. What’s more, she interacted a lot more with the audience this time round, as compared to her previous 2 concerts, and she looks happier too!
It was an intelligent and well-crafted show altogether, and it definitely demonstrates the brilliance and intelligence of Stefanie. I hope the concert gets released on DVD soon! Lastly, I think she’s an artiste that can really stand the test of time. Go Stefanie!
P.S. Didn’t take any pictures because I wanted to enjoy the performance more..
