Review: I Am … Sasha Fierce
There have been so many music albums to buy these days, but I think the most anticipated one, at least for me, would be Beyonce’s “I Am … Sasha Fierce”. Her first singles “If I Were A Boy” and “Single Ladies” are amazing, though I prefer the former more. I also like the fact that she’s going the classic look of black and white- in the lyric booklet, the “I Am …” pages are in black and white, while the “Sasha” pages have more colour.
Now onto the music, I would prefer the “I Am…” disc more than “Sasha”, mainly because I am a more ballad-type of person. Other than the 2 songs mentioned, I think “Halo”, “Broken-Hearted Girl”, “Disappear” and “Ave Maria” are really good. If a girl were to sing the last song to me, I think I’ll marry her right away! Anyway, “Halo” kind of gets onto you from the first listen, because of the repetitive “Halo” being played again and again. It’ll be a great second single! “Broken-Hearted Girl” and “Disappear” are quite simple songs that really demand a lot from singers, and Beyonce manages to pull it off rather well, especially on “Disappear”.
On “Sasha Fierce”, I am not really feeling it unfortunately, except for “Single Ladies”, “Sweet Dreams” and “Ego”, although “Diva” sounds interesting too. “Sweet Dreams” is quite catchy, but I think my favourite song on this disc would have to be “Ego”, where she really has great fun on it, with lyrics such as “I talk like this because I can back it up\I got a big ego\ such a huge ego”, it’s definitely worth a listen, especially for everyone with big ego (including myself)! Haha!
All in all, this album does not deviate too much from the mainstream music we hear these days, unlike “B’Day”, which was, in a sense, more radical, but I think we eventually managed to embrace it because of “Irreplaceable”. I would give it a 3.5 out of 5. Not very exciting in terms of musical offerings, but still good enough.
